I so admire Ruth and Billy Graham. I am in no way aligned with nor do I subscribe to their theology. That’s got nothing to do with it. What I admire is their genuineness.
Admittedly, I have limited knowledge of the Grahams. I have never met them and only know what the media has presented. Such hard, cold facts should be enough to cause a person to realize he doesn’t know enough to be speaking, but I never did react to hard, cold facts the way most folks do.
Bravely standing behind the Will Rogers defense (all I know is what I read in the papers or get from ABC-affiliate WLOS), I declare that Ruth and Billy Graham are as True as it gets.
How powerful to hear Ruth Graham’s strong, sure voice discussing her bazillion-year marriage to Billy! Please forgive my substandard paraphrasing, but in a nutshell: She and Billy had a base in their lives. Everybody else, of course, was free to do whatever they liked, too, but in the world of Ruth and Billy, there was a base. They built their lives around it; they never wavered from it; and that “has meant all the difference in the world to us,” Ruth said.
To thine own self, y’all. Two united in the pursuit of Truth. Even an atheist would stand and salute.
