We are trying to figure out the purpose of your article, “Two Boys, Two Worlds” [Aug. 22]. There are so many layers to all of this. Is your point that these children are being exploited? Well, yes they are, by the companies building high-end homes. Do you have a solution for the problem?
These families that come here illegally are coming of their own free will; they have made a choice that they have to be accountable for. No one put them in chains and dragged them across the border for slave labor. This has all been thought through by them and then acted on. If, after sneaking across the border illegally, they find the situation unbearable, then they can go back to their country and families. Illegal is the word here that disallows access to our social services, and rightly so.
We have lived legally in two foreign countries (one of them Mexico), and have not been allowed access to social services, and we did not expect it. We were quests of the countries we lived in and acted accordingly, without demands. My husband immigrated here legally from a war-torn country, and waited five years to do so.
Where does this feeling of entitlement come from? Illegals are illegal, criminals, as we would be considered if we entered another country illegally.
