We have read with great concern the articles about the [alleged] breaking and entering of a resident’s house in West Asheville. We regret was has happened to the Kuhns, and we stand with them.
Above and beyond that, we are appalled that a Buncombe County official could [allegedly] break into and enter a resident’s house in Asheville. Our concern is that if this can happen to the Kuhns in our local community, it can happen to any of us.
We call on the mayor, Asheville City Council and the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department to assure that this officer is suspended. This is a serious public matter that must be addressed openly. The incident goes well beyond a private personnel issue. In a time of war, a veteran like Officer Scarborough, recently returned from the trauma in Iraq, may be unable to exercise his best judgment to protect our community’s safety. This is a time when we expect our officials to find appropriate people for our protection.
What has happened calls for everyone to pay attention. How safe are you in your own home?
