We appreciate Margaret Williams’ recent article about our organization, Winter Green [“A Hoop House in Every Yard,” The Dirt, April 1].
We would like to further clarify that Winter Green was founded to create a local winter-food infrastructure, provide meaningful green jobs and educate about nutritious food. We do this as a team comprised of ourselves, our project manager, Mike Adams, and an apprentice, Delario Cato.

Creation of a local winter food infrastructure is absolutely vital. The coming shift in energy availability is going to affect both the cost and availability of imported food. In addition the price volatility and supply interruptions that energy experts foresee make local food one of the most urgent and real pieces of community security.
I applaud Winter Green’s efforts. Hoops we can believe in.
How many meaningful jobs have been created so far, what will they pay and can these employees rely on them for any measure of sustained employment?
