I felt so sorry for these folks from Abingdon, Va., who went to hike at Warren Wilson College and found that they had parked in the wrong place and were about to be towed [“Not Just a Walk in the Park,” Letters, March 18].
With thousands of miles of trails in our area, why hike on private land? Yes, Warren Wilson College is private—it’s not a public park.
We have the Smokies, Pisgah National Forest, the Blue Ridge Parkway, DuPont State Forest, Mt. Mitchell State Park and many more places that are free and public. There are maps, books and Web sites that describe accurately how to get to these wonderful spots, where to park and what to expect on the trail.
I hope they will come back and visit Asheville again. This time, please buy a guidebook and a map and discover the great trails of Western North Carolina.
