Wade Inganamort’s reference to the Organic.com story "Lower Salt Intake May Cause (Not Prevent) Heart Disease" leaves me wondering what can possibly be next [“Wellness Roundup,” June 15 Xpress]. Maybe "a recent study has shown that oatmeal may be a silent killer?”
Inganamort surely needs some backup to support his blockbuster claim.

Editor’s response: The weekly Wellness Review — which appears online at mountainx.com and in print — is a roundup of news from around WNC and other parts. The salt claim comes from Organic.com, not Inganamort or Xpress.

Here’s a link to the study in the Journal of the American Medical Association for anyone interested in the methodology or just wants further details > http://jama.ama-assn.org/content/305/17/1777.short

Thanks, Wade. As has been pointed out by critics on both sides of this issue, ALL salt studies are flawed and that includes the ones that say too much (whatever that is) salt is a no-no for heart health. The leading cause of death is birth so I try and practice what an ancient ancestor of mine once opined in his Doctrine of the Mean — all things in moderation.
As an aside, I believe the stress developed by those who argue vociferously about this or anything is vastly more detrimental to one’s health.
