I never realized how big of a problem littering was in Asheville until I got a puppy. Taking her for a walk is a near-constant struggle to steer her away from broken glass, cigarette butts, fireworks, piles of dog crap and, most recently, a used diaper.
I mean seriously, how lazy does one have to be to treat his or her city like this? How difficult is it to get off your ass and find a trashcan or, better yet, a recycling bin when you have to throw something away? I've always considered Asheville to be a forward thinking, environmentally conscious city surrounded by majestic mountains and rivers, but what I've noticed lately is that very few of us are making an effort to keep it clean.
Take some pride in your city and extend a little courtesy to your neighborhood.
