Letter: Past time for change on City Council

In the past half decade, residents of Asheville have seen their little city transformed — and not in a good way — by seemingly unregulated development, which the present City Council says is beyond their ability to control.

Developers have had their way with local government; in fact, one of their own is head of Planning and Zoning and now seeks his own seat on the Council! (How on Earth is that not a conflict of interest?) It is past time for a change.

    • Makes no sense to me.

      That’s because you’re looking at it through the lens of needing to say something awful about Democrats all the time, rather than looking for real solutions.

      Besides, lumping larger development issues together with STRs is apples & oranges, a deliberate distraction. It’s legitimate to direct criticism at the three candidates who so far appear to be most favorable towards large development (especially hotels/tourism industry) over Asheville residents: Jeremy Goldstein, Adrian Vassallo, and Pratik Bhakta.

      • LOL it’s because Democrats are the establishment. And what have they done? Brought graft, corruption, 1 percenter enrichment, rapid gentrification, and had the taxpayers finance it all. Thanks Democrats.

  3. So far I have not seen any candidate specifically mention that they will do something to honor the City’s pledge to end Veteran’s Homelessness. How about doing it ?
