I read with interest the article “Man of the Hour: The Rise of Mark Meadows” [May 29, Xpress] written by Milton Ready, who seems to feel that Mark Meadows is not the man that he would like to have representing us in Congress.
One of the reasons that I recently relocated to Western North Carolina from New York was my disgust with the left-leaning politicians who run that state, including Sens. [Chuck] Schumer and [Kirsten] Gillibrand, Gov. [Andrew] Cuomo, and last but not least, Mayor [Bill] de Blasio.
Mark Meadows is a breath of fresh air! I am thrilled that he stands with our president and hope that he has a long tenure in Congress!

Note that the correspondent does not mention anything Meadows has done for his district — which includes some of the poorest communities in the state. Sucking up to the president and “owning the libs” doesn’t address the opioid crisis, terrible health outcomes or a median household income of around $30,000 in the western counties. But someone who’s relocated from New York may not notice that.

This (x 10).
The writer might also consider that Meadows and Jim Jordan have taken the once quite forceful Freedom Caucus and turned it into a Trumpian cult of personality. Although I never supported their agenda, they had created a well organized, disciplined and effective bloc of conservative votes in Congress, which could often move policy or at least win concessions or compromises in keeping with their goals. Now they are a simpering bunch of sycophants. In the slightly longer term, through their blind, uncritical support of Trump, they will likely do more to empower the kind of politicians the writer vilifies.
Meadows is a breath of fresh air. Unless of course, you like fresh air. He support’s Trump’s agenda to rollback virtually all environmental regulations, Including those that have resulted in cleaner air and improved visibility here in WNC.
Well, buddy – I am a bit disappointed….I figured you’d get a much more lively response to your letter!
It seems that the letter writer has fallen in love with Meadows, perhaps he will receive a beautiful love letter from him. Maybe he can get Meadows to share the better, cheaper healthcare plan that will cover everyone.
