As you may know, I wrote a letter months ago which was published in Mountain Xpress asking the mayor and the City Council to begin some sort of preparations for war [“Consider Asheville’s Readiness for a Nuclear Strike on U.S.,” Nov. 9, 2016].
North Korea and the United States are on the brink of a serious one. North Korea has nuclear, very advanced cyber war [weapons], as well as biological and chemical weapons.
Based on Donald Trump’s recent statements to North Korea and Kim Jong Un’s replies, I, once again, ask the mayor and City Council to begin making preparations for what seems more and more likely every day. We actually have no idea what North Korea may do in regard to any of the possibilities I mentioned, so we should be prepared for anything.

LOL maybe we should do what we’ve been. Send them food and resources for broken promises. LOL, the definition of insanity. But you “intellectuals” also support the Iran deal lulz.
It’s a sad day when “intellectual” is used as a derogatory term. Education and a worldview that doesn’t fear the unknown will make us safer.
LOL, the lack of any common sense and real world experience is why the “intellectuals” are actually incompetent and ignorant.

Kim Jong-Un has no idea where Asheville is. If we were to have a nuclear war with North Korea, I’d be more worried about nuclear fallout on DC than a direct strike to Asheville.
So, what you’re saying is that even in your estimation it makes sense to prepare.

As a child who experienced nuclear duck and cover drills at school and had nightmares about nuclear war. As a Navy air traffic controller who controlled nuclear armed aircraft and thought I was gonna get nuked by Russia during the 73 Arab-Israeli war at a forward operating airfield in Greece when Nixon put the US Military on the highest alert possible next to actual nuclear war and was forced into treatment for alcohol abuse because I went nuts. As a protester who did one year in Federal Prison for protesting nuclear weapons in SC at the Savannah River nuclear bomb plant. I have been haunted all my life by the threat of nuclear war destroying the planet. Now I find myself wondering every time I start up my computer if I am gonna see a Nuclear War headline and expecting to see one every day. Nuclear weapons have been a terribly bad influence on my whole life and now more than ever !
