Since your paper is getting so much grief about canning movie reviewer Scott Douglas, I would like to offer an alternative opinion.
I know a lot of people liked his reviews, but I thought many of them seemed so scholarly and pseudo-intellectual that they sounded more like college term papers than why you might want to go see The Dark Knight Rises. I mean, it’s the Mountain Xpress for gawrsh sakes, not Cahiers du Cinéma!

First of all, I didn’t get canned — I quit. Secondly, I went to an Ivy League school to learn how to review movies, so I’m not sure how you arrived at “pseudo” intellectualism. Lastly, I have good news! I think Highlights for Children is now publishing movie reviews, you can find the latest issue at your dentist’s office. You’d have to go back seven years to find their coverage of Dark Knight Rises — which, coincidentally, was well before my tenure at the Xpress — so I’m not sure they’d be able to help you out with your decision on whether or not to watch that one, but they should have a fun maze for you to take a crack rat.
