Western North Carolina Knitters and Crocheters for Others meets monthly in Black Mountain and the Fletcher/Arden area. Members enjoy fellowship, pattern swapping, and yarn and idea sharing. The busy group of about 50 women gets together for the primary purpose of creating handmade items for others. “Our dedicated members knit and crochet afghans, hats, scarves and other items for charities and we hope that they will be a blessing of comfort and warmth to a baby, a child, a woman or a man,” says Betsy Stobbs, founder of the group.
Since the club was started in 1999, members have donated more than 8,700 items to local, national and international charities. To name but a few examples, Meals on Wheels has received scarves and afghans; chemo caps, preemie/newborn hats and bereavement sets have been donated to Mission Hospitals; and afghans have been made for Project Linus.
Meetings are held in Black Mountain on the third Thursday of each month (except December) at 1 p.m. Info: 669-0680.
