Asheville Mardi Gras’ Cajun Cookoff paired costumes with cameraderie at the Millroom on Sunday, Jan. 25.
The fundraising event, benefiting the Mardi Gras parade and Queen’s Ball (to be held Sunday, Feb. 15) as well as MANNA FoodBank, saw Cajun and zydeco fusion band Bayou Diesel playing to a decked out crowd in a venue brimming with colorful costumes.
“The MANNA FoodBank collection barrel was overflowing by the first hour,” says Xpress distribution manager Jeff Tallman. “It was a rousing success all around.”
Over two dozen entrants participated in the event’s culinary challenge. Awards, chosen by popular vote among attendees, included chef Amy Fariss of Nine Mile (first place), chef Jonathan Santiago of Biltmore Village Inn (second place) and chefs Matt Grush and Chris Hall.
