According to the National Weather Service, the higher elevations of Western North Carolina (especially near the Tennessee border) should expect an inch or two of snow accumulation overnight and into the morning.
Residents in the valley areas may see some snow Wednesday morning, but are mainly advised to watch for slick, icy roads.
“The combination of light snow cover or wet roads may result in slick untreated roads tonight,” reads the report. “Motorists should use caution late tonight as temperatures dip into the 20s.”

A cold northwest wind will force the development of scattered to numerous showers this evening into tonight across the North Carolina mountains. Most of the precipitation will be in the form of rain in the lower valleys…and a mix of sleet and snow in the higher elevations. As temperatures fall this evening…some roads may freeze and cause patchy black ice from earlier rain and melted snow. Also…snow showers will continue into tonight…mainly at the higher elevations near the Tennessee border. An inch or two of snow accumulation is possible in a few locations through the overnight.
