The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Asheville area until midnight tonight, predicting two to five inches in the lower valleys and six to 10 at higher elevations.
The NWS warns that as rain turns into snow later this afternoon, a combination of heavy, wet snow and gusty winds could topple trees and damage power lines and “brief periods of blizzard-like conditions are expected.” It also warns residents against travel except in the event of an emergency. The warning encompasses the counties of WNC.
