The Asheville Downtown Association will host a community meeting to kick around the idea of a downtown master plan for Asheville. The meeting, says ADA Director Jennifer Taylor, is intended as a first step in involving the public to create a design for the future of downtown.
“It’s really to get the ball rolling so that we can get together as a community,” Taylor said. “To let [the public] know that we don’t have [a master plan] and we need one.”
The featured speaker for the meeting will be Ed Starkie, an award-winning development consultant from Portland, Or. Starkie’s talk will cover topics that have become familiar in the discussion of Asheville’s downtown district, including infill development, rehabilitation of old buildings and public/private partnerships.
The meeting, the first of three planned over the next year, is open to the public, and takes place at 5:30 pm on Thursday, May 24, at the Asheville Community Theatre. For more information, call 251-9973.
