Because no candidate won the required 40 percent of the vote in North Carolina’s first primary in May, candidates Mary Fant Donnan of Winston-Salem and John Brooks of Raleigh face each other in a runoff tomorrow (Tuesday, June 24) for the Democratic nomination for N.C. commissioner of labor. Brooks, who finished second to Donnan, requested the runoff after receiving 24.4 percent of the votes to Donnan’s 27.6 percent.
Polls will be open for voters from the hours of 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. You may vote in the second primary only if you are registered as a Democrat, or if you were an unaffiliated voter who chose to vote a Democratic ballot in the first primary.
In other election notes, filing for the office of Soil and Water Conservation Supervisor in Buncombe County is currently open and will remain so until July 7 at noon. Filing for the Buncombe County Board of Education begins at noon on July 7 (for an at-large seat, a Roberson seat, an Owen seat and a North Buncombe seat), and closes at noon on Aug. 1.
