Visitors touring the White House on Wednesday, Dec. 19 will hear a performance by UNCA’s Chamber Singers. The vocal group, which formed just over a year ago, will travel to Washington D.C. after receiving an invitation to sing during the White House’s Holiday VIP tours, according to the university.
Melodie Galloway, an assistant professor of music at UNC Asheville, has performed at the White House before, and sent in an application for the choir to appear.
“Because the Chamber Singers was formed just over a year ago, I knew it was a long shot. But I wanted to pursue the opportunity because I knew how valuable the experience was to me,” Galloway said in a press release.
The group will also sing at Walter Reed Memorial Hospital, the Koshland Science Museum and the Annondale United Methodist Church. Their repertoire includes “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” Vivaldi’s “Gloria” and “Coventry Carol.”
