“We take dead animals and bring them back to life.” So says Bill Fuchs, owner of Wilderness Taxidermy & Outfitters, a world-renowned stuff shop in Franklin.
In this week’s Mountain Xpress cover story, “Practically Alive,” Kent Priestley takes us deep inside the exotic world of modern-day taxidermists. Staff photographer Jonathan Welch documented the work of Fuchs and his staff, who mount some 600 animals a year. Some of his photos appear in the print addition, but many more can be found online in this gallery, “The Art of Taxidermy.”
