As part of the Asheville Downtown Association’s speaker series, Jeff Milchen, co-founder of the American Independent Business Alliance, will lead a presentation and discussion that sponsors say will reveal the many cultural, economic and environmental benefits our community reaps from supporting local businesses.
The event will be held Thursday, Oct. 18, at 5:30 p.m. at Jubilee! Community at 46 Wall St. in downtown. The event is free and open to the public.
“We’ll learn about a wide range of tools our community can use to support local entrepreneurs and the groundbreaking work of Independent Business Alliances and innovative models used by dozens of communities to support hometown businesses,” states Milchen, who founded and directed the nation’s first Independent Business Alliance in Boulder, Colo. before co-founding the American Independent Business Alliance to help other communities to organize successfully.
Some business areas that Milchen will address include:
• The creation of independent alliances
• Tools for business development and preservation
• Best methods of supporting local entrepreneurs
• Innovative solutions for sustainable business development
• Model ordinances that support local businesses
