Asheville City Council will hold a special town hall meeting on its budget situation — including the possibility of dramatic cuts — next Thursday, April 18, in the gymnasium of Koontz Intermediate School at 305 Overlook Rd.
The city held an April 3 town hall downtown that drew over 100 people, with many speakers angry at the general assembly for what they (along with city staff and Council) perceive as legislation that attacks the city’s independence and widens a manageable budget gap into a crisis that could require drastic reductions in services or a tax hike. At that meeting, Council members encouraged the public to make their opinions known to state legislators.
At next Thursday’s meeting, staff will make the same presentation they did at the April 3 meeting, and Council will devote most of the meeting to public comment.
