Before hearing public comment on three amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance (dealing with steep-slope development, retaining walls and open space), at its meeting yesterday, Asheville City Council decided to wait until its next meet to deliberate and vote on the changes. During the next two weeks, city staff will answer questions posited by council to prepare for a well-informed vote.
Staff recommendations call for a ceiling of 2,200 feet for grades with more than 15 percent slope, while the Planning and Zoning Commission has called for a ceiling of 2,500 feet.
The Council members will meet again on Tuesday, May 8, to finish the issue off.
In other news, Council agreed to put a homeless advocate on a new task force to determine the future of Pritchard Park, voted to designate gold and silver LEED standards for green buildings and reduce municipal energy use 2% annually until it reaches an 80% reduction (!!).
