The annual Women’s Business Conference presented by Mountain BizWorks is slated to kick off May 31 in Asheville — but the nonprofit urges interested participants to sign up now online. Registration closes on May 20.
Some planned breakout sessions:
Business Basics for the Professional Artist – Wendy H. Outland
Following your Dreams/Siguiendo Tus Suenos En Espanol – Rosario Villareal
Invest in Yourself and Your Business- Creating a Road Map to the Future – Laura Webb
Following Your Vision – Creating a Dream – Laurey Masterton
Being Prepared to Become a Small Business – Joyce Harrison
In addition to tools and info designed to help existing and budding entrepreneurs, the conference will feature singer, author and story teller Sheila Kay Adams. Most notably, the conference will feature a talk by retired Col. Janis Karpinski, who was demoted from brigadiergGeneral in the wake of the Abu Ghraib prison torture scandal in Iraq (although the reasons for her demotion were not officially related to the abuse at the prison).
Karpinski, now in civilian life and working as a consultant in Hilton Head Island, S.C., maintains she was made a scapegoat in the headline-grabbing scandal.
