Last month, in partnership with UNCA’s National Environmental Modeling and Analysis Center, the U.S. Forest Service’s Eastern Forest Environmental Threat Assessment Center launched an online “forest threats summary viewer”, which provides images, distribution maps and brief descriptions of fire, insects, exotic plants and other concerns of our Eastern woods.
The Web-based tool can be searched by particular forest threats such as the hemlock woolly adelgid, shown here, or by state. The site is expected to help forest landowners, managers, policy makers, scientists, and, yes, even you, make sound land-management decisions and help guard the forest against all comers.
