On a quick run between storms to take a picture of the North Fork Reservoir, there are lots of things to see on the Parkway…

The side of the road was filled with these little guys, European Field Pansy, Viola arvensis |

High up above the North Fork reservoir, across from the Craggy Ranger Station, are two City of Asheville water meter manholes. You have to stand almost on top of them to see the reservoir thousands of feet below. What a trip that water takes to get back up there. |
Still kind of early in the year for many flowers, especially up high… here’s a strange shot…water meters at 5k feet? with a view of the reservoir waaaay down there. Maybe my mind is too occupied with water politics?

Amazing! We spent the late afternoon driving the BRP and were treated to not one, but two rainbows, one on top of the other. Mt. Mitchell was the the place to be to watch the 360 degree view of the moving weather systems and their beautiful show of cloud formations in addition to the sun and shadows playing off the mountains and valleys everywhere.
