North Carolina’s senior US Senator Richard Burr toured Asheville’s Thermo Fisher Scientific facility Thursday morning before holding a town hall-style meeting with plant employees. Burr praised the scientific freezer and centrifuge manufacturer for its innovative practices and ideas, specifically its Zero Landfill Initiative.
Burr noted that he shares the goal of innovation with Thermo Fisher, citing his support of scientific research funded by the National Institutes of Health.
During the town hall meeting, Burr fielded questions from Thermo Fisher employees that varied from geo-political economics to North Carolina’s proposed Amendment One. Burr criticized President Obama’s fiscal policy, referencing what he called a financial crisis at the federal level.
