Bank of America has confirmed the rumors of closing the Patton Avenue downtown branch on June 6, 2012. The bank cites duplication of services and a need to consolidate locations. The branches on Smoky Park Highway and College Street will remain open. At this time, the bank would not speculate on job losses associated with the closure.
The building currently occupied by the bank is for sale, as is the building across the street which houses Wells Fargo.

Hey, if BOA isn’t using it, they should let the Occupy Asheville folk camp in it and make it nice headquarter. Seems like a fitting use.
It’s a hideous building that no one would miss if it were to be replaced by something else. Especially if it were to be replaced by a mixed-use high-rise that featured affordable housing (hint hint, all you developers out there). However, seeing this after hearing about all these restaurants and shops closing in downtown has me worried about the state of downtown.
