Your friends may have snickered and pelted you with Mike and Ikes when you said you “wanted to buy a house in Asheville,” but you’re undaunted. Good for you. And good to know there’s help out there for first time home-buyers.
Along with the educational services offered by the Affordable Housing Coalition of Buncombe County (profiled in Xpress’ Housing Issue), Consumer Credit Counseling Services of WNC, also located in downtown Asheville, also offers home-buyer education classes. They’re offered monthly and cost $35.
All the basics of home-buying are covered, including the advantages and disadvantages (and you thought there weren’t any) of being a homeowner, how to work with a real-estate agent, the inspection process, loans and lenders, local housing resources, working with an attorney for the closing process, as well as credit questions and budgeting for buying and keeping a home.
The two-session class will be offered on June 9 and 16 (both Saturdays) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again on July 14 and 21, same hours. For registration information, call 255-5166.
