Chanting “We are not bashful” and “R-E-S-P-E-C-T, find out what it means to me,” hundreds of demonstrators recently marched through Montford and downtown Asheville in support of LGBT rights.
Organizers held the May 12 “We are not Bashful” march in response to a series of recently alleged assaults on LGBT individuals in Montford.
“An event like this provides a space where people can feel safe and speak up and hopefully get some good change happening,” said march participant Christina Tiongson.
In the below video, Tiongson and others share their perspectives on the alleged assaults and what they were trying to accomplish by taking part in the rally.
