Kudos to the Buncombe County Commissioners for
approving 7-0 new zoning for Asheville’s ETJ’s as
proposed by County Planning and Development.
State law SL2013-30 mandates that as of August 17th, all of the city’s ETJ’s be eliminated
and rezoned by the Buncombe County. This has
been a long time in coming – since 1977, the
city claimed zoning jurisdiction over areas
within 1 mile of the city. Democracy has
returned! What right does a city have to zone and issue permits on land owned by non-city residents if they aren’t allowed to vote for council members?
(we’re NOT a democracy…)
