Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and an abundance of hot cocoa and cookies will await a train full of festive passengers on the Jingle Bell Trolley Train Run, run by the Craggy Mountain Line Railroad, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving a historic 3-mile section of railroad on the Craggy Mountain Line in Buncombe County.
The nonprofit will present the second installment of this season’s holiday-themed run on Saturday. Having begun on Nov. 30, the event runs every Saturday up until Christmas — Dec. 7, Dec. 14 and Dec. 21. And train rides will be offered once per hour from 4-8 p.m.
The event, now in its second year, costs $10 per person, with free admission to children 3 and under. Proceeds from the event will be used to maintain the more than 100-year-old track and restore historic equipment to its original condition.
“In December 2012, the Craggy Mountain Line held our first Jingle Bell Run trolley train ride,” the nonprofit writes on its website, CraggyMountainLine.com. “It was well received and a lot of fun. … We would like to sincerely thank everyone who helped make the Jingle Bell Run a great success. We look forward to seeing you next year!”
The train rides, which board at the station on 111 N. Woodfin Ave., run in an open car, so passengers are advised to bundle up for the illuminated excursion. Tickets can be purchased the day of the event by calling 808-4811 or 808-4630. Reservations are recommended as seating is limited.
