This week’s additions to The Xpress Files, our online archive of key public records:
• An update, prepared at the request of City Council member Brownie Newman, on implementation of Asheville’s new stormwater and erosion-control ordinance, which was passed last August. The document includes a list of which developers and property owners have been fined under the ordinance so far.
• An Asheville city-staff report on the need to clarify and simplify the Unified Development Ordinance, which, staffers and citizens have complained, is too lengthy, dense and complicated.
• An assessment of the procedures Asheville city government uses in co-sponsoring dozens of public events each year. The report includes an itemized accounting of just how much the groups and events receive from the city budget, for a combined expense of almost a quarter of a million dollars for 2008.
• A report by a consortium of public-interest groups that takes a critical look at the policies and procedures regarding taser use that are practiced by law officers across the state.
