After a year in the field, Haywood County’s Slope Ordinance will come inside for scrutiny in a series of public meetings and a one-day workshop for its users. As reported in the Smoky Mountain News, a proposed change to put the county engineer’s office in charge of soil-density testing on contractor sites -— sparing contractors that responsibility — is expected to be a popular move. Another proposed change would put the county’s engineering-review board in charge of levying penalties for violations.
A workshop is planned for March 28 to delve into the intricacies of the ordinance and to explain the application procedure and the administration and enforcement of the ordinance. (The workshop will be held in the conference room of the Haywood County Annex II, 1233 N. Main St. To attend, contact Nancy Green at 452-6706.)
