Buncombe County Commissioner Mike Fryar revealed June 11 that he’s battling lung cancer.
The Republican freshman represents District 2, which encompasses much of eastern and northern Buncombe County, including Weaverville, Black Mountain, and Fairview, where he lives.
Here’s Fryar’s entire written statement, sent to local media outlets June 11:
As many of you already know, against different odds in my lifetime, I have overcome adversity and managed to triumph. Today, I am facing a new challenge. About a month ago I was diagnosed with a single tumor in my lung. Although not good news, the type of cancer I have is treatable. I have been undergoing treatment and I am glad to report that I am feeling well and seeing very positive results. I want the citizens of Buncombe County to know that it is my priority to continue in my position as your County Commissioner. My desire to serve this community has not changed. You can expect my full time and attention to responsibly addressing the needs of our County and being a voice for our citizens.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions, suggestions, or concerns you might have.
