Due to continued flooding, the National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Asheville and nearby areas through tomorrow morning. Several days of heavy rain have led to swollen rivers and floods washing out several roads.
“Excessive rainfall over the last few days has caused significant rises on streams and creeks in the area as well as main stem rivers,” the warning reads. It cautions travelers to be careful, especially when driving, and “never try to cross a flowing stream, even a small one.”
The city of Asheville reports that sections of Amboy Road, Azalea Road, Swannanoa River Road, Emma Road, Lyman Street, and Riverside Drive are closed due to the flooding. Some lanes of Interstate 40 near Black Mountain are closed due to a landslide, and fallen trees remain a problem throughout the area.
