Farrington withdraws from City Council consideration

Sylvia Farrington, one of five people that Asheville City Council planned to interview today to fill an open Council seat, withdrew from the process this morning.

In an e-mail to City Council sent this morning, Farrington cited “family concerns” that she said she hopes to have resolved by the end of the year.

Farrington, a 54-year-old A-B Tech employee and disaster-assistance contract worker with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, was one of 47 people to apply to fill the Council seat made vacant in November, after Council member Holly Jones won a seat on the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners.

Last week, City Council narrowed the field to five interviewees: Farrington, Chuck Archerd, Kelly Miller, Esther Elizabeth Manheimer and Charlie Hume.

Council’s interviews began at 1:30 p.m. today. City Council plans to name its pick during its regular meeting, which begins tonight at 5 p.m.
