This just in from Asheville’s Fire and Rescue: Remember that burn ban we warned you about? Well, it’s been lifted, thanks to an improvement in local weather conditions. Campfires are OK, but as always, any other form of open burning isn’t allowed without a permit. This new information pertains only to the city of Asheville; the statewide burning ban is still in effect for areas outside city limits. Below is the press release from Asheville Fire and Rescue.

LOCAL BURNING BAN HAS BEEN LIFTED
Within the City of Asheville, open burning is not allowed, except for small campfires or with a burning permit. A burning ban had been issued on August 22, 2007 by the Asheville Fire & Rescue Department, for the City of Asheville. However, due to an improvement in local weather conditions, the recent burning ban has now been lifted. Permit applications are now being accepted for review and approval.
The Asheville Fire & Rescue Department will continue to monitor conditions and reinstitute the burning ban should weather conditions deteriorate.
Asheville Fire & Rescue would like to remind the citizens of Asheville that the N.C. Division of Forest Resources’ state wide burning ban is still in effect for areas outside the city limits.
Debris burning is the number one cause of wildfires in North Carolina and trash burning is illegal within the Asheville City Limits. Asheville Fire and Rescue also still urges citizens to be extremely careful if they choose to use outdoor grills.
