Yes, Virginia, there is a Buncombe County Board of Commissioners meeting tomorrow. It’s a formidable one too: While most eyes will be on the polls, the board will vote on a controversial rezoning, appointments to the powerful county planning board and a plan to borrow upwards of $37 million to fund capital projects.
All three of those matters are delayed from the board’s Oct. 7 meeting, where commissioners also decided to cancel their Oct. 21 meeting, because commissioner David Young would be out of town.
Of the board, Young is not running for re-election, while Commissioners Carol Peterson and Bill Stanley are. Vice Chair David Gantt is vying with Chair Nathan Ramsey for the chairmanship.
Also on the agenda: the creation of a joint city/county advisory board to manage the area’s Homeless Initiative, an effort to coordinate agency’s efforts to help deal with the homelessness issue.
The meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, in room 204 of the Buncombe County Courthouse. A pre-meeting, including public comment, begins at 4 p.m.
