Buncombe commissioners and the county legal department said they would explain details of the Progress Energy lease in Woodfin at their meeting this Tuesday, May 15, but they have evidently changed their minds. The item is not on the agenda. The commissioners, as well as the county attorney’s and county manager’s offices, have not responded to Xpress queries via e-mail and phone messages about the change of plans.
The meeting agenda includes public hearings on at DOT secondary-road program and proposed closing of an unnamed road in South Buncombe. A florescent light bulb-recycling program that involves all fire departments in the county will be presented to commissioners. (Compact florescent bulbs are seen as one piece of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, since they use less power than incandescent bulbs.) There will also be reports on consolidation of Human Services and the 2007-2008 budget.
Board of Commissioners meetings are held in the Buncombe County courthouse at 4:30 p.m. and are preceded by a public-comment period, which begins at 4:10 p.m.
