After dealing with a series of hot-button issues over the last few weeks, the Buncombe County commissioners have a relatively light agenda on tap for their April 16 meeting.
First up, the board will vote again on a contentious plan to add language to the county’s personnel ordinance specifically safeguarding workers from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The measure initially passed April 3 along partisan lines, with the board’s four Democrats voting in support and three Republicans voting against. With no commissioners expected to change their minds, the second vote is largely a formality, required before the measure can take effect.
In other business, the board will consider a presentation on the Department of Health and Human Services’ “Making the Healthy Choice the Easy Choice” program. It will also hear a presentation on a local 4-H program designed to facilitate an early interest in robotics engineering.
The board will meet at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 3, in the commissioner’s chambers, located at 200 College Street, suite 326. A short pre-meeting review of the agenda will begin at 4:15 p.m.
