At its meeting tomorrow, the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners will vote on an agreement between the county and the city of Asheville to consolidate their 911 services. Also on the agenda: the results of a community child-care study and an update on mental-health legislation.
The final agreement to consolidate 911 services is the culmination of a process begun in 2003. Earlier this year, a $2.1 million consolidated call center opened, but the city and county still disagreed over the finer points of the service (such as the definition of “console”). This agreement finalizes the arrangement and sets up an advisory board to oversee the service.
The board will also vote on a resolution expressing its support of Black Mountain Mobility and hear the results of the county child-care study, as well as receive an update from county staff on mental-health legislation.
The meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, in the commissioners’ chambers at 30 Valley St. A short pre-meeting review of the agenda begins at 4:15.
