This summer, the Asheville City Council passed an ordinance requiring partisan elections (wherein candidates register and are listed on the ballot by party affiliation) — a change from the nonpartisan elections enacted in 1994.
A successful voter petition drive put a hold on the new ordinance until the citizens of Asheville could vote on the question themselves. Today’s the day, and here’s the question:
“Shall the Ordinance (City of Asheville Ordinance No. 3458, adopted by City Council on June 12, 2007) amending the Asheville City Charter and changing the manner of election of the mayor and city council from non-partisan to partisan, be approved?”
If you vote “Yes,” you are supporting the ordinance change to make future elections partisan.
If you vote “No,” you are supporting the retention of nonpartisan municipal elections in the city.
Those are your choices. Make ‘em!
