Typically marathon affairs, Tuesday’s City Council meeting could be a relatively brief session as several items are apt to be continued until later dates.
While Council can push ahead if it chooses, the agenda indicates city staff will be asking Council to delay three public hearings for up to 120 days for more work and fine-tuning. The first two hearings include possible amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance for creation of a special Mixed-Use District and development standards for parking garages. A third hearing would consider rezoning an area of Merrimon Avenue from several existing zoning classifications to the new Mixed-Use District discussed in the first hearing.
If those three hearings are temporarily shelved, Council is liable to give its full attention instead to a financial-management review of the Parks & Recreation department, a review that city staff says is badly needed. Council also will hear an annual report on the city’s noise-ordinance appeals.
