After a few weeks off, the City Council resumes its business on Tuesday, Oct. 16, with the controversial Ellington building likely to take center stage.
Council previously tabled discussion on a conditional-use permit for the sizable structure planned for Biltmore Avenue. In a bid to win Council approval, developers of the building, which would include 125 hotel rooms and 52 luxury condos, have said they are willing to reduce the height by several dozen feet. That would make the originally planned 23-story building 21 stories instead.
Many critics of the building have contended the Ellington’s size makes it incompatible with the scale of downtown.
Elsewhere on Council’s agenda, another major item is the consideration of a short list of prequalified developers the city would invite to submit proposals for redevelopment of a handful of city properties.
Council also hold a public hearing on the conditional rezoning of 100 Park Ave. for the development of a 41-unit multifamily project with modifications to setback regulations.
The meeting begins at 5 p.m. in Council chambers, located on the second floor of City Hall. The action is also carried live on the city-government channel — Charter Cable channel 11.
