Asheville City Council has a light agenda for its meeting tomorrow, Sept. 10, and an hour work session before the meeting devoted to discussing the proposed North Asheville Dog Park.
The proposed dog park has already made the news due to an eviction scare and attempts by some local residents to bring the park to fruition on an 8-acre site off Beaverdam Road and Wild Cherry Road. Now Council will discuss the matter and receive an update from city staff on where it’s heading.
Council may also complete a rezoning of major properties in the Kenilworth neighborhood, turning it from institutional to residential zoning. The Kenilworth Inn and some surrounding properties are still zoned institutional, a relic of when the site was a mental treatment facility. The move is in response to concerns by neighbors about a controversial development proposed in 2010, and that the current zoning leaves it open for what they believe would be an inappropriate amount of density; the change will reduce the maximum amount of development allowed on the site by half.
Asheville City Council meets at 5 p.m. Sept. 10 on the second floor of City Hall. The pre-meeting work session on the North Asheville Dog Park begins at 4 p.m. in the first floor conference room.
