At the April 26 Asheville City Council meeting, City Manager Gary Jackson will present staff’s recommended budget, with its aim of preserving the city’s current services. At a pre-meeting work session, Council will also review possible changes to the city’s recycling program.
The proposed budget is .61 percent less than last year’s, with 15 less full-time staff positions (though most of those were vacant or frozen positions). It seeks to maintain the same tax rate and the same level of services for Asheville. While property and sales tax revenue are up, development review fees and state grants have declined.
In a pre-meeting work session, the city will review potential changes to the recycling program, including allowing larger bins and a recycling awards program while raising the fee $.65 a month.
Council will also consider an incentives package for the Weirbridge apartments in South Asheville, along with several rezonings.
The meeting begins at 5 p.m., April 26, in Council’s chambers on the second floor of City Hall. The pre-meeting session begins at 4 p.m. in the first floor conference room.
