Founded in 2002, No More Victims is a nationwide nonprofit, nonsectarian, humanist organization that restores health and well-being to victims of war while advocating and educating for peace. NMV believes that one of the most effective means of combating militarism is to focus on direct relief to its victims.
No More Victims-Asheville is now raising funds and awareness for a 7-year-old Iraqi girl, Rusul Jalal, as she comes to the U.S. for medical treatment. The severe injuries she sustained from a U.S. missile attack in November 2006 prevent her from walking unless aided by crutches that are too big for her. The help she needs is not available in war-torn Iraq.
An estimated two million Iraqi children now suffer from poor nutrition, disease and interrupted education. One child dies every five minutes because of the war, and many more are left with horrific injuries. NMV-Asheville offers the opportunity to join in making a direct, life-changing difference for one child, and in so doing, changing the face of war.
Member Beth DeLap says, “It’s so simple … . A child receives good medical care. Her family gets a different view of the U.S. and … [we] learn more about our neighbors here and abroad.”
