The public is invited to Healthy Family Day: Preventing Diabetes on Saturday, March 14, from 8 a.m. to noon at the YWCA of Asheville, 185 S. French Broad Ave.
Healthy Family Day is free for anyone whose life has been touched by diabetes. This bilingual event will include free diabetes checks, free meters, healthy snacks and much more. Mission Hospitals staff will provide educational presentations on topics such as exercise, eating healthy and living with diabetes. Free childcare will be provided with crafts, games and healthy snacks. For more information about Healthy Family Day, contact Beverly Medcalf at 213-5537 or at Beverly.medcalf@msj.org.
Healthy Family Day is part of the YWCA’s Diabetes Wellness and Prevention Programs. The YWCA Diabetes Wellness Program helps people with diabetes manage their illness with exercise. As one YWCA participant recently testified, “I saw my doctor yesterday and he said, ‘Whatever it is you are doing keep doing it. You are doing a great job managing your health.’”
The mission of the YWCA is eliminating racism and empowering women. For more information about the YWCA, go to www.ywcaofasheville.org.
