The Asheville City Schools Foundation is an independent nonprofit that works to ensure the promise of quality education for all Asheville City Schools children. The foundation also serves as a conduit for community involvement in school success. Through a partnership among donors, community leaders and schools, the foundation is able to provide relevant and responsive assistance to ACS students from pre-K to college. It provides grants to support teacher innovations and hands-on curricula; funds and scholarships for teacher education and professional development; support for innovative program development district-wide; scholarships for graduating ACS seniors; and academic coaches for students facing social or academic challenges.
ACS Principal of the Year, Gordan Grant of Randolph Learning Center, says, “I often feel that I can do more with a $2,000 grant from the ACS Foundation than I can with a $100,000 grant because the student impact is so direct, the process is so clear.”
The ACS Foundation receives funding from the Janirve Foundation, the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, Gannett Foundation, Progress Energy, the Beatty Foundation, the Sisters of Mercy Foundation and from individuals.
Join the foundation at Trinity Methodist Church on Haywood Road Sunday, March 8, at 3 p.m. for a concert by the Smoky Mountain Brass Band. Though free to attend, there will be a “pass the hat” collection, with all proceeds going to support the ACS Foundation. Info: 350-6134 or www.acsf.org.
