2012 will be an exciting year for the YMCA of Western North Carolina. We’ll continue our efforts toward a healthier community by focusing on physical activity for youth ages 5 to 15, involving more adults 50 and older, and helping all communities access basic resources. We’re planning at least four key initiatives:
• Consolidating services with the Hendersonville Family Y. After two years of study, our volunteers committed to working regionally and expanding services to meet the needs of WNC communities.
• An affordable, overnight camp for local children. Our Swain County property will provide traditional, outdoor summer-camp activities for WNC children. Addressing the growing concern about childhood obesity and children not spending enough time outside, this initiative will offer rich opportunities for focused youth-development work.
• Introducing easy, affordable ways companies can engage and support their employees’ health and well-being.
• Continuing our organization’s charitable work serving those challenged by today’s economy and/or personal circumstances. Adding programs and services such as “Livestrong at the YMCA” (for individuals and families dealing with cancer) to help address our communities’ growing needs.
Our organization’s strong, cause-driven work is built on the commitment of our staff, volunteers and contributors. By supporting the YMCA’s work, you can help create a healthier community. I invite you to join us in these vital efforts.
